Graduation - The Quarantine Edition
Updated: Apr 30
You've seen it on TV & on social media, the word is now imprinted on your brain to the point where you're completely sick of hearing it. You probably know what I'm going to say, brace yourselves - social distancing.
Although social distancing, *again sorry*, is the best thing for us right now, a lot of things we were looking forward to are now cancelled. Holidays, weddings, birthdays & of course - graduations.
Having graduated twice, for my bachelors & masters, my heart really goes out to those of you that have worked so hard, with that one special day in mind. It completely sucks, and it is completely OK to be sad about it - after all it should have been your day!
But remember - this can still be your day...
There are plenty of things you can do to celebrate your achievements!
Host a Graduation Party on Zoom or Skype
The best thing about this? You can celebrate with your nearest and dearest, and don't have to sit through lots of names of people you don't know! Pour yourself a glass of fizz and sit back with your fellow graduates.
If you're extra like me and my friends, you can go all out and buy yourself a graduation cap on Amazon, they have caps as cheap as £6.90 - click this link here.
Decorate your House
This will really get you in the mood to celebrate your graduation! You can get confetti poppers, disco lights - go all out for your special day! This is fab to have in the background if you're having a virtual party too.
I have found the coolest graduate confetti if you really want to set the scene, please click this link to take a look!
Have a Party with the People you Live With
Whether you still live at home, or live with roommates, why not host a party? I have seen lots of really cool family baby showers and birthday parties - this would definitely work for graduation. You can also incorporate the other two points above, add decorations & get your friends on Zoom!
Get your Karaoke Games Out!
Whether you were going to go out to a bar, or have a lovely meal somewhere - there is nothing better than belting out your favourite songs. It will feel like you're out, especially when you start to think you're an amazing singer after a few drinks.
Best thing about this? You can belt songs in your own home, and not in a crowded bar full of silent strangers.
Cook your Favourite Restaurant Meal.
For my last graduation, I went for a meal with my family. You can do this in the comfort of your own home. If you don't live with your family, have a virtual meal and toast to your success! Whether you're standing on stage shaking hands or at home with a glass of wine, you're family are just as proud of you, so you can make it just as special.
Congratulations to all the graduates of 2020! I hope whatever you do, you have a wonderful day.
